Kostas Mathiopoulos

Kostas Mathiopoulos is a Professor of Molecular Biology in the department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Thessaly. He received his degree in Chemistry from the University of Athens, an MSc in Public Health from Harvard University and his PhD in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from Tufts University.

His research interests at the NIH (USA) and at the La Sapienza University (Italy) was focused on Malaria mosquitoes. After his return in Greece, Dr Mathiopoulos is working on matters related to Molecular Biology and Genomic analysis of entomological enemies of Agriculture such as the Olive fly and the Mediterranean fruit fly aiming in the development of alternative and environmental friendly methods for their control.

He has more than 50 publications in international peer reviewed journals and more than 100 presentations in National and International conferences.

Currently, he is the Research Coordinator of the National Infrastructure for Synthetic Biology “OMIC ENGINE”.
