Omic-Engine aspires to enhance synthetic biology efforts in Greece, with emphasis on the agro-food sector by structuring and coordinating fragmented research efforts and investment, addressing a broad range of synthetic biology needs including: scientific, technical and societal research challenges; community building across the country; training and education; data and infrastructure; future industrial needs and public engagement


Omic-Engine will map existing activities in synthetic biology and, through consultation with leading researchers and other stakeholders, will develop a strategic agenda to guide the emergence of the field within Greece and neighboring countries, highlighting major opportunities and challenges for researchers, funding agencies, policy bodies and other stakeholders over the next five to ten years.

This inclusive approach is fundamental, since ultimate success of synthetic biology will depend not only on Omic-Engine’s technological successes, but also its ability to engineer products and services that are needed by, and acceptable to, the public and other stakeholders
